What can you do to help?
1. JOIN US! We want you to be an SDCA member. Complete and return the printable PDF membership application form located here. Please encourage others to do the same. We will have on-line membership available soon. SDCA welcomes help with a wide range of activities. If you can volunteer your time or expertise to help, please contact us at contact@saugatuckdunescoastalalliance.com.
2. GET INFORMED: Read about what’s at stake from Keith Schneider’s report Fever of Development, Frontier of Recovery to the Tri-Community Comprehensive Plan to biological surveys of rare and endangered plants, animals, and habitats found on the Denison lands all posted here on this site. Visit our get informed page or our background page for further information.
If you want to see the Denison, check out the photographs, the slideshow, and images from artists posted on this site. If you want to experience the Denison yourself, take a tour on the Star of Saugatuck or the Dune Schooner rides. This landscape will enchant and amaze you!
3. SPEAK OUT: Discuss this complex issue with your neighbors, friends, and family. Express your views to our governmental representatives and Saugatuck LLC—the corporation that plans on developing the Denison.
4. WRITE A LETTER: Let them know how YOU feel about the plans to develop the wild heart of Saugatuck. Share your experiences and history with this land. Never underestimate the power of the pen; your letter can make a difference! Visit our write a letter page for details and addresses.
5. BUY OUR COFFEE, MAPS, & DECALS: Purchase a pound or two of the Saugatuck Dunes Blend at Uncommon Grounds. You can pick it up in person or buy it on-line at www.uncommongroundscafe.com. All the proceeds go directly to the SDCA! In addition, Concerned Citizens for Saugatuck Dunes State Park has two fundraisers that help advance these goals as well. You can purchase a beautiful illustrated, full color map of the Saugatuck Dunes coastal region at the following businesses: Landshark's and Santa Fe Trading Post. These maps show very clearly how the State Park, the North Denison, the Dune Schooner Rides, Pine Trail Camp, the South Denison, Tallmadge Woods, Oxbow, Oval Beach, and Mt. Baldhead Park are all parts of one larger whole. It would be a shame to see them divided up for profit. You can find Keep it Wild * Keep it Whole * Make it Grow decals at Uncommon Grounds, Landshark's of Saugatuck, James Brandess Studio and Gallery, the journeyman cafe, and the Everyday People Cafe. Please help support the businesses that have supported us! If you are a business owner who would like to get involved, please contact one of the Board Members for more information.
6. CALL TO ARTISTS: More than anyone, artists can show the world the magic and the mystery of this threatened landscape. Send us up to two JPEGS of art inspired by the wild heart of Saugatuck. We will use your images to create on on-line gallery. Visit our artists' images page for art inspired by the Denison. Visit our call to artists page for more information on how you can participate.
7. ATTEND SDCA EVENTS & MEETINGS: Check out this site frequently for date, time, and place information. Your presence demonstrates your concern about the future of the Denison lands.
8. CONTACT US: For all contact information visit our contact page.
