Michigan League of Conservation Voters

The Michigan League of Conservation Voters (LCV), Michigan ’s independent voice for environmental protection, fully supports the goals and the mission of the Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Alliance.

Michigan LCV has been involved over the years in conservation and environmental issues that are in line with the work of the Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Alliance, including work on restoring wetlands, protecting green space, investing in urban re-development, and advocating for smart growth by limiting sprawl and sub-urban overdevelopment.

The work of the Alliance is critical in protecting the cultural heritage and richness of character of the Saugatuck region and our Lake Michigan shoreline. The goals of the Alliance, which are clearly outlined on the organization’s website, are essential to a healthy and vibrant Michigan. The mission of protecting the Denison property and adjacent open spaces—while establishing the Saugatuck Dunes coastal region as a recognized leader in community development and land use practices that conserve energy, land, historical and natural resources— not only ensures the region’s economic diversity and sustainability, but is the kind of planning that will make Michigan a leader in 21st century jobs and ingenuity.

It is the work of organizations like the Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Alliance that will keep Michigan an attractive place for people to live, work, and recreate. Michigan League of Conservation Voters tips our hat to the hard work of the committed individuals who have brought life to this new organization. We look forward to working with and are inspired by the Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Alliance’s commitment to making Michigan a great place to live.

Sincerely,
