MAJOR DUNES AREA MILESTONES
c. 1600
The Kalamazoo River Mouth significance to the Potawatomi is traced back 4+ centuries.
1957
The National Park Service issues a formal recommendation to protect Saugatuck Dunes.
2007
Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Alliance is incorporated as a 501c3 nonprofit organization.
2010
The dunes are named one of America’s Most Endangered Historic Places by the National Trust.
Our history, culture, and tourism economy are sustained by the Saugatuck Dunes and the Kalamazoo River mouth.
The Coastal Alliance advocates for these natural resources as they come under threat.
